7.30 decimal hours is not 7 hours 30 minutes
The digits after the decimal point are fractions of an hour, not minutes. 7.30 hours = 7 hours 18 minutes, because 0.30 × 60 = 18. Seven hours thirty minutes is 7.50 decimal hours.
Mixing the two up is a common timesheet error. On a 5-day week it can undercount 1 hour 00 minutes of pay (12 minutes a day).

Why do timesheets use decimal hours?
Pay is calculated by multiplying hours by an hourly rate, and that is easier with a single number. 7 hours 30 minutes at $20 per hour is 7.5 × $20 = $150.
How many decimal places should I use?
Two decimal places are common on timesheets. Some payroll systems use more, which matters for minutes that don’t divide evenly, like 20 minutes (0.3333… hours). Choose the number of places under “Decimal places.”
What is 15 minutes in decimal hours?
15 minutes is 0.25 hours, 30 minutes is 0.5 hours, and 45 minutes is 0.75 hours. The chart below lists every minute from 1 to 60.
