What HourSprout does

HourSprout is a set of 8 focused calculators:

They are built for hourly workers, freelancers, contractors, and anyone preparing a weekly or biweekly timesheet. The wording is US English. The pay calculators can estimate gross pay in six currencies: US dollars, Indian rupees, British pounds, euros, Canadian dollars, and Australian dollars. Choosing a currency changes only the unit; it doesn’t convert amounts or apply local tax or overtime rules.

How it works

  • Every calculation runs in your browser. The numbers you type are not sent to a server.
  • There is no account and nothing to sign up for.
  • The Time Card Calculator can save timesheets in this browser’s local storage if you choose to. They stay on this device and do not sync anywhere.

Accuracy

Time is calculated in whole minutes and money as exact fractions, with rounding applied only to displayed results. Entries that could be read more than one way, such as “9:00” without AM or PM, or an end time earlier than the start, are flagged instead of guessed. The calculation code is covered by automated tests that include the worked examples shown on the calculator pages. The calculation methodology lists every formula and rule.

Limits

  • Results are estimates for planning and record-keeping, not payroll, tax, or legal advice.
  • Pay figures are gross amounts before taxes and deductions.
  • The overtime tools use the threshold and multiplier you enter. They do not decide whether overtime rules apply to a particular job or place.
  • Shift calculations use the clock times you enter and do not adjust for time zones or daylight-saving changes.
